Senior Wine Sales Executive We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Wine Sales Executive to join our Little Straw Winery in West Kelowna.
In this position, you will get to meet guests from across the globe and get to enjoy the breathtaking Okanagan
view every day at work. This is a unique and varied role that requires someone who is motivated, outgoing, and
passionate about the wine industry and, specifically, organic wines and organic viticulture.

Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Little Straw Vineyards Family Estate Winery in West Kelowna
Wage: Competitive hourly wage plus tips and commission on outside sales

Job Duties: (not limited to)

Managing the wineshop
Opening/closing wineshop – counting cash and reconciling any differences
Pouring wines for customers, tour groups and private tastings
Explaining the wines and information about the winery
Selling wines, wine club memberships and doing outside sales for the winery
Pouring wine at internal and external industry wine tasting events
Meet minimum inside and outside sales targets

Skills and Requirements:

Serving It Right required (can apply for this once hired)
WSET or applicable wine knowledge certificates are assets
Minimum 3-year experience within the wine industry required
Sales experience necessary
Customer service orientated, confident, well spoken, quick learner and a team player
Comfortable speaking in front of groups (upwards of 20+ people at one time)
Customer service orientated and able to exert fast-paced mobility for periods of up to 6 hours in length
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; basic reading, listening and speaking skills
Ability to work flexible shifts and schedules, inclusive of weekends and holidays
Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure

Cook – Winery Casual Food We are looking for an enthusiastic Cook to join our Little Straw Winery in West Kelowna. In this position, you will get to
create a menu with food items that can be shared amongst the guests. Our guests love enjoying a glass of wine with food
that can be easily shared with their friends and family in our casual setting restaurant and patio.
The restaurant is small but can get busy during the peak tourist season at the winery. We need someone who can manage
from creating a menu, costing out each of the items, ordering groceries and supplies to keeping the entire restaurant
operating with the help of other winery staff. In this position, you will get to meet guests from across the globe and enjoy
the breathtaking Okanagan view every day at work. This is a unique and varied role that requires someone who is
motivated, outgoing, and a self-started.
We are a small winery and looking for someone who can be part of our growing team and help us take our winery to the
next level.

Job Type: Full-time Seasonal (can be year-round)

Bee Friendly: Wildflowers All Purpose Garden (for sun & partial shade)

Create a spectacular garden of popular wildflowers in various shapes and sizes. Provides exceptional beauty and colour all season long!

Directions

Sow seed in a sunny or partially shaded location in early spring (after the danger of frost has passed) or early summer. Clear the area to be planted. Loosen soil to a depth of 5cm (2″) with a rake or hoe. Smooth soil surface by raking.
evenly scatter the seed mixture over the prepared area. The organic vermiculite contained in the seed mixture aids in proper seed distribution. Lightly rake again to create a good seed/ soil contact.
Keep seed bed moist.
Lightly water immediately after sowing, using a fine spray. Avoid puddling. Keep seed bed moist until seedlings are well established.
Continue to water periodically.

Kalala Organic Estate Winery owners purchase Little Straw Vineyards

Kalala brings Organic expertise while a continuation of Little Straw’s history and wine.

Kalala Organic Estate Winery, a family-owned winery producing organic grapes and wine since 2006, is pleased to announce that they have acquired Little Straw Vineyards.

Little Straw Vineyards began operating as Slamka Cellars in 1996, producing award winning wines from their Ourtoland Road winery in West Kelowna.

After a quarter of a century, the Slamka family decided it was time to retire and pass the torch. Ownership of the winery officially changed at the end of 2021.

“Our father purchased the land and planted our first vineyard back in 1969. We were one of the very first wineries in West Kelowna. This place holds near and dear to our hearts, we have raised our children here and created abundance of memories. We had been thinking of retiring from this business for a while and were just waiting for the right person to pass our years of hard work onto. Karnail and his family were a perfect fit for us as they share similar values, and they have a great vision to take the winery to the next stage. We thank all of our customers over the last several decades from the bottom of our hearts and looking forward to seeing the evolution of Little Straw Vineyards under the new ownership. We wish you all the best.” The Slamka family, previous owners of Little Straw Vineyards.

The new owners are ecstatic about their new venture and seeing what the future holds for them at this new location.

“We relate to the Slamka family in so many ways. We are both immigrant families who started a winery in West Kelowna. We understand how hard it is to start a winery from scratch and how much effort, time and patience is required to run a successful winery in this Canadian wine region. When I was looking for a better location, I heard that the Slamka family was ready to retire and were privately looking for a new owner to leave their winery to; therefore, I decided to reach out to them. Since I am passionate about organic viticulture, our new location had to have a high potential to become a sustainable organic winery and Little Straw Vineyards showed great potential for the transition. It was a perfect fit for both of us. My Kalala family and I are looking forward to continuing their legacy and seeing what the future holds for us at this new location.” said Karnail Singh Sidhu, founder and viticulturist at Kalala Organic Estate Winery

This is a big year of change for the Kalala family. Plans are in place to transition to an organic vineyard over the next few years. The official launch of the new winery is scheduled for spring 2023, where they will be introducing their premium organic label, Dostana Wines. Dostana means friendship in Hindi language and the family is excited for everyone to have a taste of Dostana (friendship), next year.
